Evaluation as a whole marketing campaign

The whole campaign has worked well as there is a defining picture that will stick in peoples minds and still give a good genre indicator to the audience. The picture of the man tided to the radiator features in all three of my campaign pieces, it shocks in the trailer and is grabbing in the poster and magazine.

Evaluation of my poster and magazine

After looking at many posters and magazine front covers i put pen to paper and started to create what i belived was an effective couple myself. I used some print screen pictures to create my backgroud and came up with ideas of how i wanted to set the writting out. I think the image i used was effective and stiking for both the poster and the magazine, it was shocking and made people look i know that when people look at things they only do so for a few seconds my poster actracts and gives information effectivly with only three lines. The magazine is bizzier and this is to attract a wider audiances. I believe the font i used in both was effective and can the colours were great and impacted well.

Evaluation on the filming of the trailer and the trailer itself

When it came to filming i new what i wanted, i believe i was a good director by getting the actors to do the things i wanted and achieve the shots that i wanted to include in my film. I created some good shots in a set that was not ideal for the film that i was trying to achieve but due to the weather was the most conveniant place to meet and film. i managed to film lots of material so that i did not need to come back and film again. the tag lines i included were changed slightly when i edited the film and sore the images that came before the tag lines.

the editing of the film was hard as we used a different editing software, this meant i had to learn how to use it whilst going along. I had alot of material filmed and when it came to editing i new alot had to go due to the fact it was a teaser trailer and only supposed to last between 1 minute and 1 minute 30. I think that the film that is left after all the editing is good and i have managed to put in alot of diffenrt shots and ways of using the tag lines.

the mise-en-scene in my film is somthing i though about and decided should be as natural as possible. The clouths that they wear are what they would every day and the set is somwhere not considered different. i wanted it to be like this because when u see the fight scene and at the end with the man tied to the radiator it shocks because the audience does not expect it.

Evaluation of planning of project

The planning of my trailer was a long process and i believe it was effective as i found it easy to come up with ideas and bring them together to create what i believe is a trailer that uses ideas i have not used before like the tag lines. I think in my planning i have considered alot more compared to previous projects that i have created and so my film being better.

I have had difficulties in creating what i planned to create due to the heavy snow the country experianced in january. this has led to decisions being made on the spot like where i was going to film. i believe that i have dealt with these issues well and still managed to produce a good project.

I can see improvement to the planning stage of my project after out side viewing like how i could have added story boards and planned for the bad wether. But with the limited time i had because of the snow and producing it by myself i believe i have done a good job.

As a class we viewed each others work and gave our opinions on how the trailers we produced were effective and how they were not effective. Advise was given on the things we had improved on and things that could be improved on in the trailer. I am giving my view on how i think the hole project went at 4.10 in video 2 also the class gives its feedback on my trailer and how well the production was.

My Magazine

I have created my magazine front cover after many attempts, this is because i wanted the writing to be in the most effective place on the magazine so to attract a wide ranging audience. I have used the same picture that i used in my poster to get the picture in peoples minds. The font size i have changed for different advertisments this is to achieve a break up of all the different aspects of the magazine. The colour of the font i have mixed up to as well so to be stiking and for the viewer to realise it is something different.

I have added the Empire logo as all the magazines advertise this well and it is an established well known film magazine which is where i want my film to be. The barcode at the bottom is usually on the magazine so i have added it to show that it is not a poster. My film title is the biggest and at the top in its own colour to stand out from the rest of the pieces on the magazine, this shows that the main part of the magazine is my film and that i think is shown well.

Creating my magazine front cover

I have viewed many magazines and they are all busy with infomation to attract the audience in many different ways. i have also analised some magazines which which hopfully will help with my magazine. They often use the same picture in the poster as they do in the magazine, this means the public is exposed to the same image which is more likely to stick in the head and be remembered. my magazine is going to follow the same principles that all other do and give more infomation than just mine to the public. It will not be as stiking with its picture and will be more crampted than the poster.

This is my poster i have created. i believe that the picture is great as it is shocking due to the fact someone is pictured tied up on a radiator. The picture grabs peoples attention and the close up allows you to see into the eyes of the character which are looking right at the audience. The writing i have placed on the poster is red as yet again i want it to grab the audience and this is a perfect colour because it clashes with the poster making it stand out and allows the reader to view it clearly and remember it better.
I have only placed Three lines of writing this is because i don't want the poster to be crowded and have the reader confused or not pick up the vital points that i want to convey in this poster. The reason i have chosen to put the title at the bottom of my poster is because i believe more people will view it there. I have placed the date on the right of the poster as it allows the picture to be viewed much clearer and the it is written down to get the reader to view the title of the film as well.

Creating my poster

Having viewed many posters produced from big film releases and others that i have seen my class mates producing i have a good idea of what i want mine to look like. My idea is for the poster not to look to busy but for the image to be striking and get people to look at it and the release date of the film. This i believe is key for a small silm maker as reseach shows that people only look at poster for a few second and they only take in a little bit ofr the info that is on the poster. The image that i am going to put in my poster is going to be from the film and one of the main characters.

The poster is very simple as it has only one image on it. The image is of the main protagonist, Matt Damon, this shows that he is the main character and the action will take place around him. The poster is in black and white possibly to pay homage to the old war films before it or possibly to try and convince the audience that the film will be simple to allow a plot twist later in the film. The lack of colour is also a genre indicator and gives clues towards the narrative because the black and white signifies the film might be of a bleak nature. His costume suggests that the film may be of a violent nature because he is wearing a bullet-proof vest.

The main body of text on the poster refers to prior films of this genre that this director and actor combination have been involved in, this tells the audience that they can expect a similar format for this film. "Matt Damon" is the second largest title on the poster behind the name of the film, this is because he is a well-known actor known for making this genre of films and this will bring in a large audience by itself. The title "Green Zone" is the only part of the poster that is in colour, making it the focal point of the poster. This draws the audience's eye into the title and as the title is in green it relates to the the name of the film and allows audiences to remember it easily.

Inception Poster Analysis

Inception is the new film by Christopher Nolan, scheduled for release in 2010, not a lot is known about the plot of the film, all that is known is that it is a mind influenced thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The First thing to draw your attention to the poster is the main image of what appears to be Leonardo DiCaprio standing knee high in water, holding a gun and surrounded by a city scape. These four things are clear indicators to what we can expect from the film, firstly the fact that in the middle of the screen is the lead actor shows that he is the main character and important to the film, the main character is also holding a gun which could link to violence in the film or maybe portray him as a policeman, being in the middle of a city could show where the film is situated being in the middle of a busy city allows people to relate to the film and with the inclusion of the apparent flood, this asks questions on how, why and when does this happen.
At the top of the poster is the name Leonardo DiCaprio, which is very bold and stands out from the background, which shows that this is one of the selling points of the film.
Just below this is the tag line "Your mind is the scene of the crime", this is an indicator to the influence of the mind in the film the fact that the word mind and crime are linked in the same sentence could link to a police thriller, or a science fiction film.
The title itself is pushed down to the bottom of the poster, perhaps showing its relevance to what the poster is trying to achieve, however its font and style are very different to the other writing on the poster, being written in red, may link it to violence. The word Inception itself means the beginning of something, which asks what relevance does this have to film and if it does what is it the beginning of.
On top of the title in very small writing is "A Film By Christopher Nolan" while under the title is "From the director of the Dark Knight", although both of these are the same person, it shows that Christopher Nolan is not a household name but the Dark knight is, this clearly shows the selling point of the film to be the involvement in the dark knight and not the man himself.

Film magazine: Front cover Analysis

This is Empires january 2007 magazine front cover. Empire magazine has been around for decades and has been renouned for its good write ups. Here is my analysis of its front cover and how we could use this to help when creating ours.

The first thing that strikes me when looking at this magazine front cover is the name of it. "Empire", In both magazines i have analysed, it has had the same font and colour writing. This tells me that this is how audiences recognise the magazine brand.

I then next notice the dominant picture which covers the majority of the magazine cover. The man in the picture is staring right at you with his hand trying to get you. That hand position is also how spiderman opens his web. This photo has been used to try and literally grab the audiences to make them buy the magazine.

I then notice that this magazine is mainly going to be about Spider-man. This is because it says about the new look Spiderman and talks about how the film is unmasked within the magazine. This tells the audience that this is most likely going to be the film to whatch right now.

I think this front cover is good because it is kept very simple. There is one main picture and does not have writing written all over the poster. I think we should take ideas of this magazine of how simple it is and how it attracts its audience. I also think that maybe we should take ideas of how we betray Lola, and maybe she could hold a pose similar to this to drag our audience towards the magazine.
Above is an image of the front cover of Empire Magazines July 2008 Edition which headlines the latest Batman film; The Dark Knight. Empire is taken over by the films thematical colouring of black and blue. Black is often associated to death, evil, and mystery which will therefore probably be included to some degree in the film. Likewise, blue has its own connotations; it is not as emotionally warm as opposing colours such as orange or red and is often used to represent masculinity. The dominating focus of the image is on the mask that the face is wearing. Batmans mask is highly iconic, so it is relevant and effective to emphasise it because it causes associations with the established and successful brand. Any sequal film will aim to target previous fans of original material as well as new generations and different demographics. The character is engaging the audience with a menacing stare that gives a depth and indication that he has a mission he is intent on acomplishing. The frame of his face is illuminated which is a technique of dramatisation. We can also see that his outline has been blurred which conjures the idea of movement and velocity; this is emblematic of the action theme of the film and the high paced activity it is likely to entail. The content of the cover on the whole is unfussy so attention is easily drawn to the films title which is juxtaposed with a taglined caption that gives details of release.

Blog Completion

Luke,

You need to add your film poster and your film magazine front cover. As far as your evaluation is concerned there is little evidence of how effective you think your whole campaign is and you have not responded to audience feedback and said what you could have done differently.

This HAS to be done by Firday or you will not recieve the marks you are capable of Luke.
